inpatient hospitalization
Inpatient hospitalization is the only level of care not offered at rethink.. Inpatient medical stabilization is a comprehensive, 24-hour care program designed to address the urgent needs of patients with severe eating disorders who require constant medical supervision and intensive support. Your team might recommend inpatient hospitalization if your adolescent is medically unstable or at significant risk due to malnutrition, electrolyte imbalances, or other critical health concerns.
The primary goal of inpatient medical stabilization is to ensure the safety of the patient, stabilize their physical health, and provide the foundation necessary for further treatment in less intensive settings.
If your adolescent is recommended for inpatient care, they will be admitted to Corewell William Beaumont University Hospital in Royal Oak, MI. There they will receive round-the-clock monitoring and intervention from an interdisciplinary team of medical professionals, including physicians, nurses, dietitians, and mental health specialists.
Your treatment team follows your adolescent while they are inpatient and works collaboratively to address the complex physical and psychological challenges of severe eating disorders. Treatment focuses on restoring medical stability, normalizing vital functions, and providing initial psychological support to prepare patients for ongoing recovery.
What Level of Care Does It Provide?
Inpatient medical stabilization represents the highest level of care in the treatment continuum for eating disorders. It includes:
24-Hour Medical Supervision: Continuous monitoring by healthcare professionals ensures that any medical complications are promptly addressed.
Nutritional Rehabilitation: Patients receive individualized meal plans and support to address severe malnutrition and reintroduce balanced nutrition in a medically safe manner.
Psychiatric Care: Patients receive evaluations and interventions for co-occurring mental health conditions, such as anxiety, depression, or trauma, that may contribute to their eating disorder.
Family Involvement: Families are educated about their young person’s condition and provided with strategies to support recovery as the patient transitions to the next phase of care.
