pathways to recovery.

There are different treatment paths to eating disorder recovery, all providing varying levels of care. During your first appointment with the physician, they will work with you to determine which pathway is most suitable for your young person.

Outpatient treatment at rethink. allows your young person to receive care for their eating disorder while maintaining their daily routines, like going to school, participating in extracurricular activities, or spending time with friends and family. This level of care provides a flexible option for kiddos who are medically stable and able to manage the foundational parts of recovery—like nourishment, activity limitations, and emotional regulation—with the support of their family or other supporters.

Our outpatient program is designed to bridge the gap between higher levels of care, such as partial hospitalization or inpatient treatment, and complete independence. Patients and their supporters benefit from structured, evidence-based treatment while still enjoying the comfort and familiarity of their home environment. This model emphasizes collaboration with families, as they play an important role in fostering a supportive recovery environment.

What Level of Care Does Outpatient Treatment Provide?

Every patient at rethink. sees the whole treatment team in one space. It’s part of our treatment philosophy and one of the ways we make the hard easier. No more traveling to multiple locations several times per week. Your team is working together, with your and your young person, in one space. At rethink., your young person will see a medical provider, registered dietitian, therapist, and psychiatrist. Eating disorder recovery in the outpatient setting includes:

  • Medical Monitoring: Regular check-ins with a physician or advanced practice provider to monitor vital signs, weight, and other medical indicators to make sure your kiddo remains medically stable and safe throughout their recovery journey.

  • Therapy Sessions: Regular meetings with a licensed therapist to address the psychological and emotional aspects of eating disorder recovery. Therapy may involve individual, family, or group sessions, depending on the patient's needs.

  • Nutrition Counseling: Ongoing sessions with a registered dietitian to create and adapt meal plans, address food-related fears or challenges, and build a positive relationship with food. Nutrition counseling is also an opportunity to educate both the patient and their family about balanced eating and the body's nutritional needs.

  • Psychiatry: Every patient at rethink. meets with our child and adolescent psychiatrist to determine whether your young person is struggling with other mental health issues along with their eating disorder, such as depression or anxiety. If the psychiatrist, you and your young person thinks medication may be helpful as part of the recovery process, regular check-ins with psychiatry will continue.

Our outpatient care focuses on providing consistent support that keeps your young person safe while they move toward full recovery. Our goal is to empower you and your adolescent with the tools, knowledge, and confidence to navigate recovery in real life, helping you all to achieve long-term recovery.
