partial hospitalization program (PHP)
At rethink., the Partial Hospitalization Program (PHP) offers immersive, comprehensive eating disorder treatment for adolescents who need more support than outpatient services can provide but do not require round-the-clock supervision.
Our PHP program is ideal for young people who are medically stable but struggling to make progress in their recovery. Whether your young person needs more support and supervision at mealtimes or more intensive therapy, the PHP is an effective option for eating disorder recovery for adolescents.
PHP provides a structured environment during the day while allowing your young person to be at home in the evenings and on weekends. This gives them the opportunity to apply the skills and tools they’ve learned at home.
Patients attend a full day of treatment sessions where they receive two meals, and two snacks prepared with the guidance of our registered dietitians. Each meal and snack is an opportunity to provide nourishment in a supportive environment, address challenges related to eating and reinforce positive behaviors around food.
What Level of Care Does It Provide?
The PHP offers a high level of care, bridging the gap between inpatient treatment and outpatient services. This program provides:
Structured Daily Schedules: Patients take part in a variety of therapeutic activities throughout the day, including dialectical behavioral therapy (DBT), cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT), somatic movement therapy, and nutrition education.
Individual Therapy: Your young person will meet with their therapist individually once a week to explore and address the underlying emotional and psychological factors contributing to their eating disorder.
Group Therapy: Group sessions foster connection, shared experiences, and skill-building through group discussions facilitated by licensed therapists.
Family Therapy: Patients and supporters meet with a family therapist once a week to focus on improving communication, strengthening relationships, and empowering your whole family to be active participants in your young person’s recovery process.
Art Therapy: Patients participate in creative therapy sessions once weekly, providing an outlet for self-expression and emotional processing.
Nutrition Counseling: A registered dietitian will meet with your young person once weekly to ensure that their meal plan and supplement are providing the nourishment needed for full recovery. Dietitians also help navigate food-related challenges and begin to establish sustainable habits for long-term recovery.
Medical Monitoring: The medical providers meet with your young person twice weekly to make sure your kiddo’s physical health remains stable, paying special attention to growth, vital signs, and other health markers.
PHP is an intensive, supportive program that equips patients and their families with the tools, knowledge, and confidence to navigate recovery. By providing immersive care during the day and opportunities to practice recovery strategies at home, PHP empowers adolescents to take significant strides toward a life free from their eating disorder.
